Health Camp held at Pre-primary Teacher’s Training Academy, Imphal, in association with Bliss 32 chain of Multispeciality Oral Health Center
November 2, 2016
The patients present at the camp were checked by the doctors for their blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), oral cancer and breast cancer. Health education regarding the increasing incidence and prevalence of cancer among women was given. The camp began at 10.00 am in the morning with an introductory session about breast cancer. Information was provided about the risk factors, methods of screening, treatment protocol and prevention against the disease. This was followed by breast and oral cancer check-up and blood pressure and BMI tests. Reports of the breast cancer screening showed that 2 women were detected positive. The first one had already undergone a biopsy for the lump 3 months ago for a benign tumor. The other patient was referred to the Regional Medical of Sciences for a localized ultrasound. Reports of oral cancer screening depicted 3 men to have pre-cancerous lesions and conditions, including oral submucous fibrosis and leukoplakia due to the habit of betel quid chewing and areca nut chewing, which is a fairly common habit in the north eastern part of our country. While the blood pressure and Body Mass Index for nearly all patients were in the normal range, many patients reported being diabetic.
