INTERNATIONAL CHILDHOOD CANCER DAY

“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud”

~ Maya Angelou

This International Children Cancer Day, YouWeCan Foundation and Smiths Detection came together to echo the above sentiment. The idea was to bring a dash of smile to the lives of children undergoing cancer treatment in the Post Graduate Institute of Child Health, NOIDA.

All the children admitted to the ward were given art supplies to unleash their creativity. YouWeCan and Smiths Detection team encouraged the children to fill their favourite colours on the sheet – an action that resonated with hope and positivity.

Dr. Nita Radhakrishnan, Associate Professor and HOD, Department of Paediatric Haematology – Oncology supported and encouraged the event. She said, “It was especially nice to see the smiles on their faces, to see how they were expressing themselves through colours.”

As a token of love and appreciation, all the children were presented with gifts and refreshments. The excitement and happiness were visible on their faces. Little did we know that our efforts will bring such smiles and colours in the lives of these precious children.

This was an engaging and stimulating event for our partner, Smiths Detection as well. Sandeep Bhatia, Financial Controller, Smiths Detection said – “The kids have so much talent but they are suffering with this disease. That’s what we can contribute to the society by providing them means to support their treatment.”

Towards the end of the event, a bigger surprise was waiting for us. Harsh and Mayank, two children from the ward came to us with their caretaker. Their caretaker thanked the team and told us that the kids are very happy as they have made new friends with YouWeCan and Smiths Detection team. This was our biggest takeaway – the beautiful smiles and hopeful eyes, and of course – many new friendships!
