Guru Gobind Singh Medical College & Hospital - Faridkot
During the peak of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College & Hospital, which is a constituent institution of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences at Faridkot district in south-west Punjab, became a nodal point for providing care to critical COVID-19 patients from Bathinda, Mansa, Muktsar, Moga, Ferozepur, Fazilka and Faridkot districts.
This 1050-bedded hospital had developed a 450-bedded isolation facility for the COVID patients during the second wave. Despite such preparedness, the hospital still faced difficulty in accommodating every patient that required support of live-saving critical care equipment.
When we launched the Mission 1000 Beds initiative, our team contacted Dr. Raj Bhadur, Vice Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, who was gratified with the support extended by the Foundation in their hour of need.
This 120-bedded facility has been set up in a new block of the hospital as an exclusive COVID-19 critical care setup to make the hospital better equipped with critical care facilities for any upcoming waves of COVID-19.
The facility was handed over to the hospital authorities on February 18, 2022.
