The YouWeCan Scholarship provides financial assistance to cancer survivor children from marginalised backgrounds, to help them get reintegrated into the formal education system, once their cancer treatment has been completed. Once a student has been enrolled for the program, they are provided a scholarship of upto Rs. 30,000.00 per year. Moreover, they are supported on a year-on-year basis, every year till the time they complete their education.
The Scholarship Program was started in 2016 after Yuvraj observed that a large of young cancer survivors from underprivileged backgrounds, between the age of 5 and 16, were dropping out of school after completing their treatment. Although there were many reasons behind this, the primary reason was due to financial constraints. Initially, the scholarship was restricted to school students only, but in 2018 the criteria was changed to include cancer survivors pursuing their higher studies as well.
Strict processes are in place for due diligence and screening of applications. To ensure transparency and to maintain strong financial control, funds are disbursed directly to schools, colleges and educational institutions and not to beneficiaries or their caregivers/family.
