Dibrugarh

While doing our research for need assessment in various regions of India, we came across an article in The Times of India mentioning that with the surge in COVID-19 cases in Dibrugarh district, the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), which is the oldest medical facility in the Northeast, was struggling to manage the huge influx of patients. The article also mentioned that over 400 COVID-19 patients were admitted in the hospital at the time.

When the YouWeCan team got in touch with Prof. (Dr.) Prasanta Dihingia, Superintendent, AMCH Dibrugarh, he confirmed the same and expressed an urgent need to add critical care beds to the current capacity of the hospital’s COVID-19 beds.

On learning about the Mission 1000 Beds initiative, the team of doctors at AMCH were elated and extended complete support throughout the installation process, right from the first meeting with the hospital till the complete handover of the 50-bedded Critical Care Facility. The facility was set up for pediatric patients as a preparedness measure since it was anticipated that the upcoming waves of COVID-19 might adversely affect the pediatric population.

The facility was handed over to the hospital authorities on August 27, 2021.

A total of 2152 patients have benefited so far at this facility.
