Project Name

PGIMS Rohtak

When the second wave of the pandemic hit India, the smaller cities were spared for the initial few weeks. However, the rural areas around Rohtak district in Haryana soon started seeing a rapid surge not just in COVID-19 cases but also in deaths due to the unavailability of beds.

With Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) being one of the major hospitals in the state catering to a population of approximately 2.54 crore, most patients across Haryana were reaching the hospital looking for oxygenated beds. Therefore, PGIMS Rohtak was facing an acute shortage of oxygenated beds to accommodate everyone.

We reached out to Prof. (Dr). O.P. Kalra, then Vice Chancellor of the University, who welcomed our proposal and shared with us details of the space available within the hospital that could accommodate a 65-bedded COVID-19 Critical Care Facility.

It was anticipated that a large number of  pediatric patients might require medical assistance and care going forward in the upcoming waves of COVID-19. Hence, the new facility was developed as a pediatric critical care facility.

The facility was handed over to the hospital authorities on August 27, 2021.
